The "Nicolae Balcescu" Land Forces Academy was visited, on November 13th 2012, by the MILITARY ENGINEERING CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE (MILENG COE) Director, colonel Otto RADLMEIER. The German guest was in Sibiu as a participant in the "Military Engineering Advanced Operations and Planning Course", a course which welcomed instructors form MILENG COE and took place at the "General Eremia Grigorescu" Application School for Combat Support Units. His stay in Sibiu was a propitious opportunity to visit the Academy, a good chance for the colonel to find out interesting data on the organization, functioning, missions and material resources of the standard military higher education institution of the Romanian Land Forces.
The activity of briefing the colonel revealed all the aspects necessary for the thorough understanding of the concept behind the organization and functioning of higher education military institutions, highlighting, of course, those in charge of training future officers for the Land Forces.
Colonel Otto RADLMEIER also offered details on what the MILENG COE stands for within a short presentation, covering information on the organization, missions, components and future trends of the NATO Centre of Excellence. The conclusions of the discussions held included the reciprocal belief that the Land Forces Academy and MILENG COE will manage to find interesting common approaches on scientific research and education, which could translate into mutually beneficial cooperation programmes.
The final part of the activity included a short tour of our institution which provided the NATO Centre of Excellence Director with the opportunity to visit all the resources he had been told about during the introductory part of the activity.
