The 5th International Scientific Conference "The Impact of Emerging and Disruptive Technologies on Global Security", organized by "Nicolae Bălcescu" Land Forces Academy of Sibiu in partnership with the Romanian Academy of Scientists – Military Sciences Section, "Elie Carafoli" National Institute for Aerospace Research and Development, Titu Maiorescu University of Bucharest, the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, and Carfil S.A., once again provided a valuable platform for exploring new perspectives on the impact of emerging and disruptive technologies on global security.
The event brought together experts from the military, academic, and industrial sectors, fostering meaningful dialogue, the exchange of valuable ideas, the strengthening of existing collaborations, and the establishment of new institutional partnerships. The discussions highlighted current security challenges and emphasized the need for an integrated approach capable of keeping pace with the dynamic evolution of technology.
The conference featured six invited papers and 57 scientific contributions, presented within two thematic panels that addressed both the technical and systemic dimensions, as well as the operational implications, of emerging and disruptive technologies in the fields of security and defence.
The exhibition component, comprising 14 static and dynamic displays, further enriched the participants' experience by showcasing a broad range of cutting-edge technological solutions. Among the highlights were the COBRA II light armoured tactical vehicle, Romania's first educational Earth observation satellite, as well as a variety of unmanned systems, specialized equipment, and dual-use technologies.
For us, scientific research is not merely a strategic priority but a responsibility towards society. We believe that genuine progress is achieved through dialogue, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary cooperation, while research remains the essential framework for understanding and addressing the complex challenges of today's world.
