On September 17th, 2017 Lieutenant Ene Cristian, Command Sergeant Major Șaroși Francisc, sophomore cadet Alungulesă Alexandru and freshman cadet Miron Marius of the “NicolaeBălcescu” Land Forces Academy, invited by the Hellenic Army Academy, participated in the “Leonidas Trophy,”a 25-kilometer running competition.
The event, organized on the Anopea route, the one believed to have been followed by the Persian Army to encircle the Greek position at Thermopylae, was meant to celebrate the heroic deeds of the 300 Spartans led by Leonidas who perished trying to stop the second Persian invasion in September, 480 BC. Among the approximate 750 runners from Greece, Bulgaria, Spain, Canada and Romania, the one who arrived the first was Command Sergeant Major ȘaroșiFrancisc who covered the 25 kilometers in an hour and 34 minutes. The other members of our team finished the race in the top 50 competitors, on the 40th, 41st and 49th places, proving exceptional physical and psychical qualities.
The winner was awarded a bronze trophy representing the brave Spartan king Leonidas.
Congratulations to all participants for their efforts and achievements!
