Celebration of the Land Forces Academy: 171 years of Romanian military education

Successor of the educational and institutional traditions of the first School of Officers in Romania, the "Nicolae Balcescu" Land Forces Academy celebrated 171 years of Romanian military education today, 13 June. On this occasion, the entire military academic community of Sibiu celebrated this important moment by participating in the events organized by the institution at this anniversary hour.

The activities started with the dedicated military ceremony, in which, as a sign of appreciation for the support given to the Land Forces, the head of the Land Forces Staff gave Laurentiu Cosmin Balcu, chief inspector of the "Cpt. Dumitru Croitoru” Emergency Situations Inspectorate in Sibiu, Honorary Emblem of the Land Forces.

The name of the spiritual patron of the Land Forces Academy, of the historian and revolutionary Nicolae Balcescu was attributed to the distinction that has been granted since 2007 to the most rewarding representatives of the military academic community of Sibiu. This year, the prize was awarded to the cadet Chief Master Sergeant Sorina Potcovaru, for the exceptional results obtained in the academic, military and physical training and to the student Staff Sergeant Lungu Petronela for the outstanding results achieved in sports competitions, as well as for promoting the image of the academy at national level.

The activities continued with the "Open Doors Day" when all the guests had the opportunity to attend artistic moments held by the Military Music Band and the Choir of the Academy, presentations of military technique and weapons, visiting the logistics base of the institution and book and photo exhibitions.
