Military Action Modelling and Simulation Center

The Military Action Modelling and Simulation Center has the role of supporting the training activity of military students through the use of advanced technologies. It is in line with the Institutional Development Strategy of ”Nicolae Balcescu” Land Forces Academy of Sibiu and aims to integrate virtual, constructive and real simulations and advanced technologies in the training of students from all military branches and specialties.

The activities carried out within the Military Action Modelling and Simulation Center aim to

  • support specialized training and conduct didactic activities specific to the curricular area of military action modelling and simulation;
  • plan, organize, and execute simulation training exercises;
  • conduct experimentation activities (at the center level) specific/adjacent to the M&S domain.

Structure of the Military Action Modelling and Simulation Center:

  • Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory equipped with robots, virtual assistants, image analysis software, voice and facial recognition systems;
  • Military Action Modelling and Simulation Laboratory I equipped with the virtual simulation system VBS (Virtual Battlespace)
  • Military Action Modelling and Simulation Laboratory II equipped with the constructive simulation system JCATS (Joint Conflict And Tactical Simulation)
  • MILES and Drone Laboratory equipped with different types of drones and software licenses for real-type simulation.
    The activity within the center takes place in two locations:
  • in the Academy, in the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Hub, where specific scientific research and scenario development activities are carried out
  • in Perii Daii training range, in the Advanced Technologies Training and Education Center, where specific training sessions for students take place

The specialized laboratories have dual functionality, allowing them to be used both during teaching, scientific research, and specialized military training activities, as well as during tactical exercises (e.g. the CADET integrative exercise) thus meeting the requirements regarding the organization of the planning, management, and evaluation structures of the exercises.
