According to the proposal of the ministry of war, brigadier general Ioan Rășcanu, the Royal Decree no 5376/1920 was adopted, which stipulated the following: "The second infantry school is established in Sibiu, on the 1st of July 1920, on the premises of the former Austro-Hungarian cadet school." The commandant of the school was Colonel Cristea Vasilescu (commandant between 1920-1928), staff officer, veteran of the First World War. It was also then that the school received its battle flag. At first, the institution included 47 officers, 1 fencing master, 1 professor of Romanian language, 1 doctor, all of them among the top officers. In the autumn of the same year, the school hosted a number of 248 first year students and 51 second year students from no 1 Infantry Military School in Bucharest, who were divided into four companies. The classes began on the 15th of November 1920 and, on the 19th of December 1920, the first students of the military school took the oath of allegiance.

On the 22nd of December 1920, the Direction of the Military Schools approved, under order no 8849, that the school should have as spiritual patron Saint Nicholas and celebrate him annually.
