The pride of “Nicolae Bălcescu” Land Forces Academy alumni, class of 2023, is their first rank of officer


The military ceremony awarding the first officer rank to LFA graduates was held on Friday, July 28, 2023.

The 305 graduates of the class of 2023 will serve at the Ministries of National Defense, Internal Affairs, Romanian Intelligence Service, Foreign Intelligence Service, Protection and Guard Service, Special Telecommunications Service, and National Administration of Penitentiaries. The class of 2023 will be given the honorific title "General Constantin Christescu100".

Major General Ciprian Marin, Chief of the Land Forces Staff, Lieutenant General Nicholas Borton, Commander of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, Major General Dragoş-Dumitru Iacob, Commander of the Multinational Corps South-East, Brigadier General Daniel Pop, Head of the Training and Doctrine Department of the Defense Staff, representatives of the national defense system, public order and national security, local and central public officials, relatives and friends of the recent grads also attended the event together with the military academic community of Sibiu.

Second Lieutenant Robert-Marian Alixandrescu, who finished first in his class at "Nicolae Bălcescu" Land Forces Academy, with an average of 9.78, in the Infantry branch, Reconnaissance specialty, received the custom stiletto as a token of appreciation and recognition for the outstanding results he achieved during his exams from Minister of National Defense, Mr. Angel Tîlvăr.

The stiletto was presented by the Chief of the Land Forces Staff. Additionally, Major-General Ciprian Marin presented merit prizes and certificates to graduates who had earned the highest rankings in their military specialties at the Ministry of National Defense.

The valedictorian was awarded the “Military Science” 2nd class Badge of Merit by General Daniel Petrescu, Chief of the Defense Staff. Brigadier General Daniel Pop, Head of the Training and Doctrine Department of the Defense Staff, presented it.

For the Ministry of Internal Affairs, sub-inspector Florentina Cosmina Negoiță, came in first place with a 9.03 average. The award and certificate of achievement were presented by Mr. Valentin Minoiu, Police Chief Quaestor, Deputy General Director of the General Directorate of Human Resources Management within the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Sub-inspector Bianca Daniela Cornoiu ranked first, with an average of 8.64, for the Ministry of Justice, the National Administration of Penitentiaries. The award and certificate of achievement were presented by the director of the Social Reintegration Directorate of the National Administration of Penitentiaries, Mrs. Ioana Mihaela Morar, chief penitentiary commissioner.

In the Special Telecommunications Service, second lieutenant Iulian Marin Chivu ranked first, with an average of 9.53. The award and the diploma were presented by the director of the Special Telecommunications Service, General Eng. Ionel Sorin Bălan, PhD.

Second lieutenant Maria Deac ranked first at the Romanian Intelligence Service, with an average of 9.39. The award and diploma of merit were given to her by the head of South Transylvania Regional Directorate of Information, Colonel Dumitru Tomi.

“Respect your profession, comrades, especially your subordinates. Promote the virtues of honor and never forget perseverance and courage, but above all, character, and respect. I urge you to be brave! Don't back down in the face of adversity. Nothing is achieved easily, and the challenges you will face during your military career will be comparable to the positions you will assume”, said the Chief of the Land Forces Staff, Major General Ciprian Marin.

Brigadier General, Prof. Eng. Ghiţă Bârsan, PhD, the rector of “Nicolae Bălcescu” Land Forces Academy in Sibiu, congratulated the young officers on their accomplishments and wished them luck in their future endeavors. The commandant also sent heartfelt messages to the parents of the young graduates: “I am confident that the memories of this day will be profoundly ingrained in your minds and hearts. Be proud of the children you have raised and educated because they will always try their best to honor you. Their current achievement is a complete return for all your sacrifices over the years.”
