Change of Command Ceremony at “Nicolae Bălcescu” Land Forces Academy in Sibiu
In the presence of the Chief of the Romanian Land Forces General Staff, LTG Ciprian Marin, the official change of command and handover of the Battle Flag of “Nicolae Bălcescu” Land Forces Academy (LFA) in Sibiu took place today, March 28. The ceremony marked the transition of leadership from BG Prof. Eng. Ghiță Bârsan, PhD, the outgoing commandant (rector) of the Academy, to Col Assoc.Prof. Constantin Grigoraș, PhD, current Vice-Rector and Deputy Commandant for Training and Student Affairs.
This solemn occasion, a symbol of continuity and respect for our values and traditions, marked the end of more than 14 years of distinguished service by BG Prof. Eng. Ghiță Bârsan, PhD, as the head of the Academy. “I part ways with the social responsibility of serving as rector and commandant of the LFA. Together with the leadership teams, the staff, and the students, we aimed to make a difference. Did we succeed? It’s hard to say, as I’ve always held myself and all of you to the highest standards. What is certain is that the Academy has reached a national and international level of recognition and respect. Today, I hand over the Battle Flag and the responsibilities of command, but I feel a part of my soul remains here,” said BG Prof. Eng. Ghiță Bârsan, PhD, during his farewell speech.
In his address, LTG Ciprian Marin emphasized: “Together with the team you led, you proved that through effective resource management and an innovative approach, quality education tailored to the needs of a military institution of higher learning is possible. Your dedication went beyond academic improvement — it upheld the integrity and values that define a military career. Your personal example of conduct and professionalism, combining military rigor with pedagogical wisdom, resonated with faculty members and students alike, who hold you in high esteem. Someone who knows you well once said that your high standards stem from your desire to see others rise above, to become better than you. For all of this — for the passion and energy with which you transformed the Academy into a symbol of excellence, and for the inspiring example you have set — we thank you!”
As a mark of high appreciation for his outstanding service to the institution, his remarkable contributions to the intellectual and personal development of younger generations, and his role in advancing higher education and scientific research, the Acting President of Romania awarded BG Prof. Eng. Ghiță Bârsan, PhD, the National Order “Faithful Service” in the rank of Knight, with peace insignia, for military personnel.
