Today, on the parade ground of "Nicolae Bălcescu" Land Forces Academy of Sibiu, the first-year cadets experienced one of the most important moments of their training: taking the Military Oath.
In front of the Flag, with a resolute voice and eyes filled with emotion, the young first-year cadets linked their destinies to that of Romania by pledging their allegiance to the country - a sacred, conscious and responsible promise through which they committed themselves, with their whole being, to put above all else the desire to defend their homeland, their people and their national values.
Alongside them, the students trained in civilian universities for the needs of the Romanian Army confirmed, through the same solemn gesture, not only their desire to dedicate their careers to the military uniform, but also their moral commitment to serve their nation with their intellect, their skills and their souls.
In his speech, the Romanian Chief of Defense Staff, Lt. Gheorghiță Vlad, addressed the students: "Today is a day you will never forget. You have pronounced the Military Oath, those few words that bind you forever to your country and to the Romanian people. From today on, you wear the uniform with dignity and embark on a profession that demands courage, discipline and loyalty. You have chosen a hard but beautiful path. Not everyone has the courage to say 'yes' to a life where duty comes before comfort and where the team counts more than the individual. Be proud of your choice! The country needs people like you – determined, fair and ready to help where help is needed."
The Romanian Land Forces Chief of Staff, Lt. Ciprian Marin, added: "I look at you with confidence, I see not just students who have chosen a military career, but future leaders, educated in the spirit of military values and traditions, part of a brotherhood of arms that has written pages of history with honor and sacrifice. (...) Be proud to be part of the Land Forces and of the Romanian Army! Uphold the virtues of military honor, and never forget that discipline, competence and above all, character must define us!".
Addressing the students, the Commandant (Rector) of "Nicolae Bălcescu" Land Forces Academy of Sibiu, Col. Dumitru Todosiuc, said: "Throughout your career there will be difficult moments – moments when you will ask yourself what purpose compels you to move forward, to make certain sacrifices or efforts. When you reach that point, please remember this day and remember the looks of excitement, pride and admiration on the faces of your parents and relatives who are with you today."
Congratulations to all who took the Military Oath today! May devotion, courage and honor guide your steps throughout your military career.
